The �鶹��ý Girls Who Code Challenge Team competed in the Spring 2023 College Loops Challenge against several other chapters of around the nation last month. The team of four won first place overall!

On May 23, the City of Irvine awarded �鶹��ý’s Interactive Media Arts (IMA) Program with a special for being selected as finalists in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) GameSiG Showcase.

�鶹��ý student Allyson Najera is one of 15 Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) members selected as a 2023 Hites Scholar and will receive a $10,000 scholarship for baccalaureate studies.

The Hites Transfer Scholarship is awarded to PTK members who are preparing to transfer to a bachelor’s degree-granting college or university. Winners were selected from among 2,700 applicants nationwide for their outstanding academic achievement and rigor, leadership accomplishments, and engagement in college and community activities.

On May 6, a group of 17 �鶹��ý Honors students presented their research at the hosted by the Bay Honors Consortium at Stanford University.

Ria Singh Thakur’s project, “The Unhinged Woman: An Intersectional Feminist Evaluation of Postfeminist Anti-heroine Fiction and Online Gender Performance,” was named a finalist for both awards by the symposium, the Katharine Award and the Heslet Scholar Award.

Whether it’s on the stage or on-screen, Spencer Keane’s costume-designing abilities can be described as out of this world.

The �鶹��ý grad is plying his costuming creativity on the new space-centered Apple TV show, ‘For All Mankind,’ as a self-proclaimed “Spacesuit Technician.”

“That’s the cool job title,” admits Keane. “We’re technically labeled as specialty costumers."

Western University of Health Sciences (WesternU) College of Pharmacy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with �鶹��ý (�鶹��ý) to create a pre-pharmacy pathway for students to become pharmacists.

The transfer admission guarantee agreement will provide �鶹��ý students with a guaranteed seat in the College of Pharmacy’s Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program upon completion of the prerequisites while maintaining a 3.0 or higher GPA.

Senior Administrative Assistant for Technology Services Stefanie Alvarez has been named �鶹��ý’s 2023 Classified Employee of the Year! As the first person that many people communicate with when they call �鶹��ý, Stefanie treats each person with respect and kindness.  She believes in �鶹��ý’S mission of equity, inclusion, and access being that she too was an �鶹��ý student. She experienced and appreciated what it was like to be a student and receive help on the other end.

�鶹��ý’s Manager of Outreach Services Frank Rivera has been named the 2023 Manager of the Year! Frank has led the Outreach department since January 2021. He is recognized by his colleagues for demonstrating exemplary collaboration and innovation, including his leadership in the development of a new signature event, �鶹��ý’s Preview Night. This successful event, first held in 2022, was held again in March 2023 with over 1,830 attendees present.
