What is High School CE articulation?

Articulation of high school career education (CE) courses allows students to complete academically rigorous high school or Regional Occupational Program (ROP) courses while still in high school and to receive college credit at 麻豆传媒 for those courses. Articulated high school CE courses are building blocks in an educational pathway leading to certificates, associates degrees, transfer, and/or employment.

  1. Students earn 麻豆传媒 college credit for courses taken in a high school or ROP program
  2. Students do not need to repeat coursework at 麻豆传媒
  3. Students develop skills and knowledge prior to college
  4. Students decrease the cost of college tuition and textbook fees
  5. Students may complete 麻豆传媒 college programs and/or transfer more quickly

Note:  Check with an 麻豆传媒 counselor about the transferability of articulated high school CE courses to universities. Policies on the acceptance of articulated high school CE course credit may vary by institution.

High school students may be granted college credit pursuant to established high school CE articulation agreements between the high school or Regional Occupation Program (ROP) and 麻豆传媒.

The procedures to obtain credit for high school CE articulation are as follows:

  1. Apply Online.  Apply online to one of the colleges in the district (麻豆传媒 or Saddleback College). There is no requirement to be currently registered in a college class to receive credit. You can apply to become an 麻豆传媒 student.
  2. Meet with a Counselor.  The student will initiate the assessment process by meeting with an 麻豆传媒 counselor, who will fill out and submit a CE High School Articulation Request. An official high school transcript will need to be provided with the request. High school transcripts may be provided electronically or as a hard copy in a sealed envelope. Counseling appointments may be made .
NOTE:  The course name on the high school transcript must match the course name on the articulation agreement.
  3. Validate Request.  Determination of whether a specific course or elective credit is to be awarded in any area is made by faculty in the discipline who normally teach the course and is detailed in a course articulation agreement. An articulation agreement for the requested course must be verified to be approved. A list of approved articulation agreements may be found on the college鈥檚 website. The 麻豆传媒 counselor will conduct this verification.
  4. Process and Notate.  Once the documents have been reviewed and approved, the 麻豆传媒 Counseling Department will forward the petition with supporting documents to the 麻豆传媒 Admissions and Records Office for processing.  After Admissions and Records receives the petitions and supporting documents, it will take up to two business days* for the course and grade to be notated on the student鈥檚 麻豆传媒 transcript. Once the credit appears on the transcript it is not reversible or repeatable.
*At peak times this may take longer.

A letter grade may be assigned for a high school CE articulation course and the course will be identified as 鈥淐redit by Examination鈥 on the transcript in accordance with official grading assignment on the Course Outline of Record (COR). The enrollment fee for credit by examination will not be charged for credit awarded under this provision.

Only students who are successful in obtaining a standard grade of B or better will be approved for credit and the 麻豆传媒 course, units, grade, and a credit by exam notation will appear on a student鈥檚 麻豆传媒 transcript in the designated term in which the course was completed at the high school.

For high school courses taken over two semesters to satisfy an 麻豆传媒 course, a grade of B or better is required in each high school course. Grades of B- or lower in either semester do not qualify. Full credit for the 麻豆传媒 course will be awarded, not partial credit. Grades from both semesters will be averaged to determine a final grade of A or B. Plus (+) and minus (-) grades will not be awarded, but will be averaged as follows:

Submit supporting materials to the college using this (please be logged into your work Google Workspace account).

  • Name of high school or ROP class
  • Name of high school or ROP class as it will appear on a high school transcript
  • Name and contact information of the faculty lead for the high school or ROP class
  • Name of 麻豆传媒 course or courses that you believe articulate with the high school or ROP course
  • Official course description or course outline of record that identifies:
    • Prerequisites
    • Hours of instruction
    • Writing, reading, and lab hours
    • Course objectives
    • Course topics
    • Competencies, skill requirements, and learning outcomes
    • Textbooks/materials used in the class
  • A sample course syllabus
  • A copy of the final assignment or exam used in the course

The 麻豆传媒 Dual Enrollment Officewill circulate the materials to the appropriate 麻豆传媒 discipline faculty leads.  High school CE articulation is faculty driven and the 麻豆传媒 Dual Enrollment Office serves only as a facilitator.

Upon review of the materials, the 麻豆传媒 faculty lead will notify the 麻豆传媒 dean鈥檚 office of the decision.

  1. If YES:  The 麻豆传媒 dean鈥檚 office will prepare and circulate an electronic articulation agreement for signatures, house the agreement in 麻豆传媒鈥檚 SharePoint system, and post the agreement to the college鈥檚 high school CE articulation website.
  2. If NO:  The 麻豆传媒 dean鈥檚 office will notify the high school or ROP that the course will not be articulated.
  3. If UNSURE:  The 麻豆传媒 dean鈥檚 office will facilitate a meeting between 麻豆传媒 discipline lead faculty and the high school or ROP faculty to address questions and concerns.  麻豆传媒 lead faculty will then inform the 麻豆传媒 dean鈥檚 office of the decision, and the dean鈥檚 office will inform the high school or ROP of the decision.

The 麻豆传媒 dean鈥檚 office will need the names and emails of the following individuals for signing the agreement:

  1. External (from high school or ROP):  lead faculty, lead administrator
  2. Internal (from 麻豆传媒):  lead faculty, department chair, instructional dean

The agreement will be circulated electronically via AdobeSign.
