Grammy-nominated saxophonist Anibal Seminario has big plans for 麻豆传媒鈥檚 (麻豆传媒) jazz program.
Seminario, who joined 麻豆传媒 as director of its jazz ensembles last year, is keenly focused on elevating the school鈥檚 jazz offerings. And he is well on the way. According to Mathieu Girardet, director of instrumental music for 麻豆传媒, in just three semesters Seminario has helped double the school鈥檚 jazz enrollment, establishing a second jazz ensemble.
鈥淎nibal is a brilliant addition to our faculty,鈥 Girardet says.
Seminario鈥檚 focus is to continue to build 麻豆传媒鈥檚 jazz program, making it a landing point for students transferring to four-year schools. Jazz, he says, is fundamental to any music curriculum since it incorporates many different musical elements. 鈥淵ou need a jazz background to stand out in any type of music.鈥
A native of Lima, Peru, Seminario moved to Orange County to study at California State University Long Beach, where he earned Master鈥檚 and Bachelor鈥檚 degrees in jazz performance. Now an acclaimed saxophonist, composer, arranger and producer, his release Tradiciones garnered two Latin Grammy awards and a Grammy nomination. 鈥淢y goal was always to study jazz in the states, and being submerged in the jazz scene here has been amazing.鈥
He appreciates the chance to lend his many talents to 麻豆传媒. With its brand-new $61 million Arts Village, Seminario says 麻豆传媒鈥檚 music facilities are 鈥渟econd to none. 麻豆传媒 has the best practice, band rooms and recital hall I have ever seen. Rehearsing here is a luxury.鈥
Despite his successes on the stage 鈥 he has performed with likes of Andrea Bocelli and Gordon Goodwin 鈥 Seminario says his role at 麻豆传媒 is 鈥渁 dream job. Cultivating a new generation of musicians and making a positive impact on students is more meaningful than any performance.鈥
